Rethinking the Blog II

When I first took on the task of “art-directing” articles I had no idea what I was getting into.

It’s difficult – frankly.

This form of content creation challenges your creative writing and design skills. You find yourself trying to create something unique and appealing like never before. I believe that this is where I lapsed in keeping the site regularly updated. Early on motivation came from Project 52 but time passed and, like my writing, it just never happened. Regardless, the main thing that kept me from going was the sheer amount of work involved in producing just one article. I spent about one full day coming up with a concept or idea to write about, writing it and finally proofing it. I would then spend another day designing and developing it. If you plan on doing this for yourself then set some goals and think about publishing monthly or every other week. Be realistic about your abilities and the time you’re willing to set aside.

But it’s also fun.

There is nothing better than creating something for yourself. To build something and see it go live without time limits or budgets brings you personal joy like nothing else can. Nobody can tell you what you can or cannot do. The best part? When other’s respond and share their thoughts online. Creating a conversation is powerful, believe me. I don’t regret it.

Taking the risk.

Do it. If you love web design, just do it. It’s a risk you won’t regret because it will push you to think beyond what you thought you could.

Also, don’t ever use the word “blogazine”. Please.
